Head lice

Eva asked me, "Karen, have you ever had head lice?"

"No, I haven't." I replied.

"Why not?"

Why haven't I ever had head lice? I had never thought about it. To me, the question is, why would I have head lice - the normal state for me is hair that is frequently washed.

"Well, I guess it's because my mom always checked for eggs."

That's true - before the bus arrived on the first day of school, my mom would quickly go from head to head, looking for eggs.

"They wanted to look on me, too," Eva replied," I would run away because I didn't like them touching my head."
